National Student Survey 2008
The National Student Survey started at Goldsmiths on 28 January 2008, and continues until 30 April.
The National Student Survey is only the second regular national survey of students views in the world (the other is in Australia), and is fully supported by the National Union of Students. Last year more than 170,000 students in the UK responded to the survey, with the results being used by the Government, by league table providers such as the Guardian and Sunday Times, by prospective students (via a link from the UCAS web page) and most importantly by the College to identify areas for improving the student experience. For example the College launched a major review of assessment in response to the student dissatisfaction revealed by previous surveys.
The survey, which is open to final year undergraduate students only and is accessible online at www.thestudentsurvey.com, takes no more than 5 minutes, and asks 22 questions about such things as teaching quality, assessment and feedback, learning resources and academic support. You will also be asked about your overall satisfaction, and can give unstructured comments, all completely anonymously.
In order for the data to be considered valid the College needs a response rate of 50% and at least 23 students in each subject area. In a small institution such as ours every visit to www.thestudentsurvey.com is important in helping the College identify areas where the student experience can be improved in future.
