 Japanese Society

Although the Goldsmiths Japanese Society was set up in August 08, it's committe members have big plans and aspirations for the society.

The society encourages and promotes the learning of the Japanese culture and it's key aim is to bring the culture to Goldsmiths. You've heard of little Italy, well now Goldsmiths University has its very own little Japan!

Through workshops, demonstrations etc we hope to teach our members a little something about the intricate and interesting heritage and culture of Japan. There is no discrimination of any sort and everybody is welcome to join, Japanese or not. All that we ask is that you share our enthusiasm and interest for all things Japanese!

However the Japanese society isn't just about workshops, demonstrations it's also a place to meet and make new friends. Think of it as a way of enhancing your time at Goldsmiths.

In the forthcoming year the society has organised various events, one of which being the language lessons which are taught by a native Japanese speaker. These lessons occur weekly and are free for the society members. The lessons are available at a beginner and intermediate level.

Other events the society has planned for 08/09 academic year include:

-Karaoke nights
-Movie Nights

- Invited Speaker from Japan Embasy in UK

- 5 a side football tournaments
- Japanese Cusine classes/workshop

- Evenings out at restaurants

Also since the society is a part of the ULJS (University of London Japanese society) we are able to join in on their big events such as Japan Night which is a big night out which takes place in November.

Memebership costs £1 for the year and you can sign up at the Student Union Office. Please remember to have your student id card with you as you'll need your student number to join.
