Anthopology Society
The Anthropology Society has taken yet another road!
Just like in previous academic years, we welcome students from all disciplines to join in various types of events and trips in relation to anthropology. We aim for collaboration with other societies and institutions and a multi-disciplinary dialogue within
AiA
We have chosen to place our field of action under the umbrella title of “Anthropology in Action”, with more focus on ‘Visual Anthropology’ and the Mediated encounter in the field. This gives the discipline a critical eye on its own role and meaning, at the same time developing collaborations – anthropology in need for unity.
We shall be posting all information on events on OUR BLOG:

Our first motivation is to establish an ethnographic film festival for students in Goldsmiths for the autumn term 2008. We encourage participation and welcome students to send us their films.
ALL ARE WELCOME to participate, give a hand, and just come, watch, discuss!
The event will take place in Goldsmiths and it will be free of charge.
However, our plan of action is to begin next April, with a field-trip to film
WE ARE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE to continue the legacy left by the previous society members, by organising debates and discussions on research, for which we just need to find the right time to invite researchers and experts from around College or even greater London.
A parallel plan is to write and publish a short ‘pedagogical’ anthropology handbook we aim to present to teenagers and children, motivated as we are to ‘democratise’ anthropological discourse. This will be accompanied by an open-questionnaire to develop the outside-perception of anthropology, an inclusive project we hope will benefit for first years and more importantly one we hope will gather fresh reflections on the discipline from ongoing students. We want all this to engage further in the Peer-Assisted-Learning Scheme currently being developed in College.
Also the society can serve as an independent agent to negotiate change within courses – however any suggestions needs to be constructive and relevant to the course-title in order to put forward proposals to the department. Suggestions could be to invite potential employers of anthropology bachelors and doctorates more often.
